Much the same as scheduling an annual doctor’s visit to make sure your body is healthy and functioning properly, or taking your vehicle for an oil change and/or tune-up, periodic inspections of your air conditioner are paramount in maximizing the efficiency and overall life of your air conditioning system as a whole. The SEER rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is related to the amount of energy that your air conditioning system uses to cool your home. Simply put, the higher the SEER rating, the less energy you are consuming to cool your home, which results in a lower power bill. However, the system efficiency is directly dependent upon multiple factors including refrigerant charge, coil cleanliness, electrical connections, etc.
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Purdue University performed a study of 4,000 residential air conditioning systems. The study showed that nearly 7 out of 10 air conditioning units are improperly charged with refrigerant. This improper refrigerant charge alone can lead to a 10% to 20% reduction in efficiency. This equates to an annual energy bill increase of approximately $100 per ton of cooling capacity. For instance, the owner of a typical 1,800 square foot house with a 3-ton air conditioning system would pay approximately $300 more per year for electricity simply due to an improper refrigerant charge.
As stated previously, refrigerant charge is only one of a number of factors that affect the overall efficiency. We recommend a professional precision tune-up twice a year, including a precise evaluation of the refrigerant levels to ensure proper charge, inspection of all electrical connections to ensure proper voltage to all components, cleaning outdoor coils to ensure proper air flow, inspection of the indoor coils to ensure proper air flow, etc. The Air Doc offers a Comfort Club Maintenance Agreement to do just that. We will perform a precision tune-up twice each year to keep your unit running at its rated efficiency, as well as greatly reducing the number of future repairs. On top of all of that, our Comfort Club members receive priority scheduling and 15% off of all future repairs. We use a flat rate pricing system, so you can be assured that this is not just lip service. We will save you money now and in the future.
We are forever grateful for our customers. We pride ourselves in customer service and satisfaction and will not stop until that is achieved. We will treat you and your home with the utmost respect. Please give us a chance and contact us today to schedule your initial inspection and tune-up!
